THE CITY OF NEWARK DEPARTMENT OF LAW IS SEEKING CANDIDATES FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS:
ASSISTANT CORPORATION COUNSEL – CIVIL LITIGATION
The Law Department is seeking candidates to work in the Civil Litigation Section. The potential candidate will be handling tort claims, including but not limited to, dangerous condition cases, slip and falls, property damage, motor vehicle accidents, employment discrimination, and breach of contract matters. The potential candidate will also be handling civil rights violations cases such as false arrest/imprisonment, improper use of force, and improper police pursuits. Preferred Candidate will have prior trial court experience. A Juris Doctor Degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey is required. Newark residents are encouraged to apply.
ASSISTANT CORPORATION COUNSEL- MUNICIPAL PROSECUTOR OFFICE
The Law Department is seeking candidates to work in the Municipal Prosecutor’s office. The potential candidate will be prosecuting criminal, quasi-criminal, disorderly persons offenses,
motor vehicle offenses and any other matters in which the Newark Municipal Court has jurisdiction. The candidate will review cases involving violations of City Code and State Statutes, perform legal research to support the State/City position in hearings and trials, prepare and respond to motions, and conduct discovery. Preference of at least one year of related prosecution experience. Candidate must have admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey; license must be in good standing. Candidate must also have obtained Juris Doctor Degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school. Newark residents are strongly encouraged to apply.
